The KYUUSU 1 きゅうす-I kintsugi teapot from the takara collection was handmade and painted in Japan. The name of the blue and white decoration—Togusa—represents bamboo leaves and is one of the classic Japanese patterns.
The original shards were joined together using the traditional Kintsugi method, with Urushi Japanese lacquer and bone marrow glue. The cracks on the outside were painted over with Bengara Urushi and refined with 23.75 carat Rosenoble real gold.
This handmade piece is part of a series of objects created in collaboration with JAPANWELT: ceramics and porcelain broken on the journey from Japan to Germany, which have been given a new lease of life through the Kintsugi technique.
