The original shards were joined together using modern adhesive according to the modern kan'i kintsugi method. On the outside, the cracks were painted over with Urushi Japanese lacquer and refined with 12-carat white gold.
This handmade piece is part of a series of objects created in collaboration with JAPANWELT: ceramics and porcelain items that were broken on their journey from Japan to Germany and given a new lease of life through the kintsugi technique.
You can find out more about broken ceramics and my collaboration with JAPANWELT in my blog article “From broken ceramics to kintsugi treasures: a journey of ceramics.”
