The Kintsugi sauce bowl CHOKU 2 ちょく II was handmade in Japan. Its deep blue glaze contrasts harmoniously with the gold of the finish.  The numerous chips were filled with several layers of Japanese lacquer, creating the very characteristic finish of this little treasure.

The original shards were joined together using the traditional Kintsugi method, employing Urushi Japanese lacquer and glue made from sticky rice. On the outside, the cracks were painted over with bengara-Urushi and refined with 23.75 carat rose gold powder.

This handmade piece is one of a series of objects created in collaboration with JAPANWELT: ceramics and porcelain broken on the journey from Japan to Germany, which have been given a new lease of life through the kintsugi technique.
